Getting Started with TrarrenShot

Learn how to set up TrarrenShot on your Mac, grant the required permissions, and take your first screenshot in minutes.

Welcome to TrarrenShot

TrarrenShot is a lightweight macOS screenshot tool with scroll capture, OCR text recognition, annotation tools, and a color picker. This guide walks you through setup and your first capture.

Step 1 — Install TrarrenShot

1

Download from the Mac App Store

Open the App Store on your Mac, search for TrarrenShot, and click Get. The app is free to download.

Step 2 — First Launch

2

Open TrarrenShot

Find TrarrenShot in your Applications folder or Launchpad and open it. You will see the TrarrenShot icon appear in the menu bar (top-right of your screen). TrarrenShot runs from the menu bar and does not have a traditional app window.

Step 3 — Grant Permissions

3

Allow Screen Recording

macOS requires Screen Recording permission before TrarrenShot can capture your screen. When prompted, click Open System Settings and enable the toggle next to TrarrenShot under Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.

Screen Recording permission is used only to capture screenshots you explicitly trigger. TrarrenShot does not record your screen continuously.

Step 4 — Take Your First Screenshot

4

Capture an area of the screen

Press ⌃⇧1 (Control + Shift + 1). Your cursor becomes a crosshair. Click and drag to draw a selection rectangle around the area you want to capture. Release the mouse button to take the screenshot.

Step 5 — Annotate and Share

5

Add annotations and save

The annotation editor opens automatically. Use the toolbar to add arrows, shapes, text, or blur. When ready:

  • Press ⌘S to save to your Mac.
  • Press ⌘C to copy to clipboard.
  • Click the Share button to send via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
